Racing Point have stuck to a similar livery as last year, when the team was known as Force India. However, after the team was launched into administration during the Formula 1 summer break, Lawrence Stroll, Lance Stroll's father as well as being a Canadian businessman, rescued the team by buying it alongside others. As a result of this, the Racing Point launch was hosted in Toronto.

Otmar Szafnauer, Racing Point's team principle, is aiming for the 'best of the rest' position of fourth place in the Constructors Championship. Although the Silverstone based team failed to secure fourth this year, beaten by Renault, they did manage to secure fourth in both 2016 and 2017. Szafnauer said, "We want to be fighting for podiums and aim for a strong top-four finish."

Sergio Perez will be racing alongside Lance Stroll in the still BWT pink car. However, the addition of a new sponsor, has meant the rear wing is now enhanced with dark blue after the new sponsor of SportPesa, an African sport betting company. This new partnership is a multi-year deal and will star in the teams new name, SportPesa Racing Point F1 Team. Szafnauer stated, "SportPesa is a young, dynamic, growing company whose values align with our own vision to become a team capable of competing at the very front of the grid. We are excited to have such an ambitious partner on board to help us deliver our team mission and look forward to working with them to bring the sport of Formula 1 closer to fans around the world."

The team have placed a goal of scoring points at every race for this season. A goal which many strive to achieve. Even Mercedes failed to do so last season with a double DNF in Austria.
